The Tigers are poised to call up the organizations top prospect and the Sons of ’84’s #68th ranked prospect for 2016, Michael Fulmer.
Fulmer is a right handed 23-year old who was acquired in the the Yoenis Cespedes trade from the New York Mets last season. Michael was drafted in the 2011 first round compensation portion with the 44th pick out of Deer Creek, HS in Oklahoma.
In six seasons of Minor League Ball, Fulmer is 27-25 in 78 starts, with a 3.73 ERA, 1.261 WHIP, has thrown 398 innings, struck out 385 (8.7 per 9) and walked 130 (2.9 per 9).
This season, Fulmer started out at Triple-A Toledo, where he is 1-1 in 3 starts, with a 4.70 ERA in 15.1 innings of work, with 5 walks (2.9 per 9), 20 strike outs (11.7 per 9), and has a 1.370 WHIP. Of his 3 starts, 6 of his 7 earned runs were scored in his last outing against the Cleveland Indians Triple-A affiliate, the Columbus Clippers, as he was touched up for 3 home runs.
Fulmer throws a fastball, slider, curve, and a changeup and is set to face off in Minnesota against Phil Hughes who is 1-3, with a 3.91 ERA at 8:10 tomorrow night
